Why Purchase Our Beef?

Family Owned & Operated

JT Cattle Company was formed by two families in 2008 that have a passion for the livestock industry and the cattle business. Justin and Julia Oldfield and Morgan and Megan Tittle, along with their children, actively manage and care for the cattle on a daily basis. As consumers are looking to connect directly with farmers that produce their food, Justin and Morgan were determined to bring high quality and natural beef straight from the farm in order to serve the Sacramento community and beyond.

Environmental Sustainability

In 2022 JT Family Farms Natural Beef was born. Located in Elk Grove, JT Cattle Company and JT Family Farms Natural Beef raise cattle on sweeping and lush irrigated pastures that provide the opportunity for cows to flourish. Pastures are managed to increase productivity, protect water quality and local wildlife and serve as a pathway for replenishing the groundwater basins that run along the Consumnes River. All cattle are raised on the ranch along the Consumnes River south of Elk Grove.

Beef Free of Hormones or Antibiotics

As ranchers, we have an obligation to provide the best possible care for our cattle. Is our beef hormone and antibiotic free? The short answer is yes! All our cattle are free from any added hormones or implants. Our superb animal health and welfare practices ensure our cattle are healthy, and as a result, antibiotics are most often never used. That said, if an animal gets sick, we do not deny them from receiving life saving drugs. Although minimal, any antibiotic treatments are done in consultation with a licensed veterinarian and drug withdrawal periods are strictly followed. As a result, all JT Family Farms Natural Beef is guaranteed to have no antibiotic residues.

Grass Fed & Grain Finished

Our cattle are grass fed, however JT Family Farms Natural Beef also stands out from other farm-to-table vendors by grain finishing our cattle. JT Family Farms Natural Beef cattle are grain finished to increase flavor, marbling and tenderness. Cattle finished just on grass, generally fluctuate in overall quality and return less total beef to customers. Grain finished cattle offer a combination of both lean and flavorful cuts and ensures we provide our customers consistency in quality. In addition to grain, cattle are finished on hay grown on our farm and include other locally sourced ingredients like spent brewer’s grains from nearby breweries. As a result of our high-quality feeding practices developed in consultation with a ruminant livestock nutritionist, our formulated ration is not only good for finishing the cattle but is also good for their health! In short, we are able to ensure all their nutritional needs are met. As a result, carcasses from our cattle hang at the butcher generally between 850 to 900 pounds. Larger carcass weights maximize your investment and means more beef to you in a quarter, half or whole steer. Unlike other vendors that have flat fees, with us you pay for what you get.

The Bottom Line

As experienced ranchers, we stand behind our cattle and our beef. In fact, the same beef you will get by purchasing our beef is the same beef we feed our families. The environmental, animal health and welfare and nutrition practices we follow work to ensure you receive local, high quality and nutritious beef while supporting family farmers in your community.

For Justin, Julia, Morgan and Megan, agriculture runs deep in their blood. In addition to cattle, Justin and Julia are second generation owner/operators of a diversified farming operation that includes raising wine grapes, nursery products, hay and thoroughbred race horses. After graduating college, Justin became an active leader in the California cattle industry and continues to work to promote California’s family cattle ranches. Julia graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Agriculture Business and has been the driving force behind their plant nursery which serves residents of Elk Grove and the surrounding community. After receiving a degree from CSU Chico in Animal Science, Morgan worked in the cattle industry and managed a large commercial berry farm on the Central Coast. In addition to JT Cattle Company, Morgan’s career continues in agriculture as fresh berry farmer.
